Summer has come and gone and we are transitioning between seasons. Summer does not officially end until September 21st, yet the mornings and evenings are much cooler, and the warmth of the day is less intense here in New England. Kids are back in school, schedules are filling up, the days are shorter. How are you shifting with the changes? For me, I felt pulled to organize my house. We do not spend much time inside during summer, yet with the cooler evenings, I was feeling drawn inside and needed to give the inside some attention. We moved my office to a space on the first floor with private access. This was my vision when we bought our house 2 years ago, yet it was important for my husband to have a private room for his music until we could arrange a bigger space for him. That has been done – yeah for him, and yeah for my clients and me! I love win-wins! Last night we celebrated my second child’s 26th birthday. It was so much fun having friends and family together. My daughter, Erin celebrates her birthday with friends and all those celebrating St. Patrick Day – her birth date. My youngest son, Brian, is with family in the mountains each year for his birthday, and we gather at the beach for Michael’s yearly advance in age, and this year it fell on the weekend of The Seafood Fest in Hampton Beach, NH so he had lots of celebration. This time of year feels more to me like New Year’s than January 1st. So I am wishing you a Happy New Day and Season. To Your Love! P.S. A great big Welcome! to all new readers....
Recently my husband and I travelled to Belo Horizonte in Brazil to attend a wedding. Our son-in-law is from there and his brother had invited us to celebrate in his special day. A wedding, how could I not attend? Well, there were plenty of objections that Burt, my husband, and I tried out between us. It’s a long (very long) flight. It was costly. We don’t speak the language. Did he really want us there or was he just being polite. It’s summer in New England, and we treasure our summer days on the coast. There were plenty more. Yet, we both checked in with what is important to us – our passions, and our ticks – and this helped us to make the decision that was in alignment with our being. So of course, we attended. I allowed my fears, doubts and objections to surface, allowed them their voice, and even thanked them for their attempt to protect me. Then I chose to connect to love and making a choice from there. I love to ask the question, “What would love do?” In this case love was being supportive to our family. Our son–in-law is our family and had an opportunity to meet his family and experience the culture in which he was raised. That was important to us. Love was choosing adventure, something new together, and being open to experience and possibility. It was absolutely the right choice for us! We were so embraced community. Burt and I were wrapped up in the arms of love in every moment we were in Brazil with his daughter, her husband and his family. Our hearts and mind were open to receive without judgment or expectation, as well to offer our attention and sincere appreciation at being included so warmly. Had we listened to our objections, doubts, and excuses – all examples of fear, we would have missed an experience that we will both cherish forever.
Karen Drucker on her album, All About Love, sings “What Would Love Do” – I find it very inspiring.
